Installation

Download and install OpenHive on macOS, Windows, or Linux.

OpenHive ships as a native desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

macOS

Download the .dmg, open it, and drag OpenHive to your Applications folder.

macOS builds are signed and notarized, so Gatekeeper should let the app open on first launch without extra steps.

Windows

Download and run the installer. It installs OpenHive for the current user and adds a Start menu entry.

A portable build is also available if you’d rather not run an installer — unzip it and run the executable from the extracted folder.

Linux

Download the .AppImage, mark it executable, and run it:

chmod +x OpenHive-*.AppImage
./OpenHive-*.AppImage

If your system doesn’t have FUSE, use the .tar.gz build instead — extract it and run the binary from the extracted directory.

First launch

The first time you launch OpenHive it prepares the agent runtime on your machine. This is a one-time step and can take several minutes on a cold install. Subsequent launches skip it entirely.

Requirements

• A network connection — OpenHive Cloud handles sign-in, so the app cannot start a session while offline.
• Enough free disk space for the bundled runtime and its dependencies.

Updating

Install the new version over the existing one. Your workspace — colonies, queens, memories, and credentials — lives outside the app bundle and survives upgrades.
